Architecture for Health Showcase

Our Project

UNC Health Johnston is advancing a strategic expansion of its Clayton campus to address rapid population growth and service consolidation. The existing 50-bed hospital, originally developed as a freestanding emergency and outpatient center, now faces persistent emergency department crowding and limited inpatient capacity. In response, the project introduces an 86,000-square-foot, three-story bed tower featuring expanded medical-surgical units and a relocated women’s birthing center designed as a regional destination for maternal and family care. Targeted renovations, including sterile processing, utility yard expansion and public space enhancements, strengthen operational efficiency and patient experience. Delivered by an integrated in-house team spanning planning; clinical operations; architecture; and mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineering, the phased design ensures uninterrupted hospital operations while establishing a resilient, adaptable framework for long-term community health.
